Kadala Curry - Ingredients:

Kadala  1 cup
Turmeric powder   1/4 tsp
Sliced coconut pieces  3 tbsp
chopped Onion  1 large   
Button onions chopped  4  
Green chillies  3 slit
Curry leaves a few
Red chilly powder  1 tsp
Turmeric powder 1/8 tsp
Mustard seeds  1/2 tsp
Dry red chillies 2
Coconut oil  As required
Salt To taste

To fry and grind
Grated coconut  3/4 cup
Button onion chopped 2 
Coriander seeds  1 1/2 tbsp
Fennel seeds   1/4 tsp
cardamom  2
cloves   3
Cinnamon stick  1
Pepper corns  1/2 tsp
Kadala Curry - Directions:
  1. Soak the kadala for atleast 4 hours

  2. Cook kadala in pressure cooker by adding turmeric powder and salt.

  3. Heat oil in a pan and add the coriander seeds & whole spices. Saute for a few seconds and add the sliced pearl onions. Saute for a minute and add the grated coconut. Roast until it turns reddish brown. Switch off and leave aside. Grind it to a paste when it cools down.

  4. In a deep vessel season mustard and add dry red chillies.

  5. Now add the sliced coconut pieces. Saute until they turn brown,add the sliced onion, pearl onions, green chillies and curry leaves.

  6. Saute until they turn light brown.

  7. Add chilli powder, saute for a few seconds and add the water from the cooked kadala. Bring to a boil and add the ground coconut paste and cooked kadala.

  8. Cook until the gravy achieves the desired consistency.

  9. Serve hot with puttu or Appam
